Japanese coming of age ceremony

Hello, everyone. Today is Coming of Age Day in Japan, which is a national holiday.
Coming of Age Day is marked by ceremonies held to celebrate young people who have reached the age of 20.

These ceremonies are generally organized by local governments throughout Japan, and the common practice is to include those who turn 20 between April of the previous year and March of the current year, based on the academic year system.

The Coming of Age Ceremony is considered a moment for young people to recognize their responsibilities as members of society and develop a sense of accountability.

In 1948, the Public Holiday Act established Coming of Age Day as January 15. This led to the widespread adoption of Coming of Age Ceremonies nationwide, with each region showcasing its unique traditions.

Since 2000, following revisions to the Public Holiday Act, Coming of Age Day has been observed on the second Monday of January, which continues to this day.

In Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, it is well known that many young people participate in the ceremony wearing extravagant outfits. This year, too, the event is lively and full of energy.
